PASTOR’S COLUMN
“Total Transformation”
Last Sunday at our called business meeting, the members of Farmville Baptist in attendance voted unanimously to approve the Stewardship Committee’s recommendation in the financing of our roof repair. As I said in my sermon last Sunday, one of the blessings that we have is a beautiful sanctuary, but we also know that our roof needs fixing and restoring. A couple of Sundays ago, several people came up to me after the Southside Baptist Association meeting expressing their admiration for the beauty of this space. I was almost tempted to reply, “Why thank you! Would you like to contribute to keep it that way?” With this vote, it is now the responsibility of every member of Farmville Baptist to contribute to this cause. As Chuck Daniel said in worship yesterday, our roof is a challenge that has the potential of bringing the church together and making us stronger as we address this important issue in our church. I have no doubt that God will see us through this physical transformation.
I also have no doubt that God wants to see us through a spiritual transformation of this congregation. I believe that the physical restoration of the building of Farmville Baptist can be a reflection of a deeper spiritual restoration and revival of the people of Farmville Baptist. During this time of physical restoration, God invites every member of Farmville Baptist to also be spiritually renewed. A beautiful building is nothing without a Spirit-empowered people to animate it.
For over a year now, our church has been on a spiritual transformation journey, which calls for nothing less than the transformation of our lifestyles so that we become more faithful disciples of Jesus. In the coming weeks, I will be approaching several of you to join with me in a ten-week discipleship course called a “Discipleship Huddle Group.” I have been involved in a huddle group with seven other Virginia Baptist pastors over the last two months, and this group is making a difference in my spiritual walk. The huddle group that I’ll be leading will not replace our spiritual journey prayer groups, but I hope it will be a logical next step as we involve more people in the total transformation of Farmville Baptist Church for the glory of God!
Journeying on, Michael

I want to thank your membership for all your prayers, during my stay in UVA Hospital. I returned to UVA Monday for some tests after five weeks from surgery. I was found to have a clean bill of health and won’t go back for six months. Thank you again for all your prayers and God bless all of you.

It has been very meaningful to James & me to receive the cards from your Wednesday evening prayer time while we were in Billings, MT. I wanted you to know that we are now back in Farmville. James is on home health care for another week & then will be doing out-patient therapy. His progress has been miraculous & we praise God for his watchcare & healing power We are still writing in the journal on the web site: caringbridge.org/visit/jamesallcock. We will continue to post updates ther and would be pleased for people to continue to follow James’ progress and/or read his story from the beginning. Thanks so much for keeping us in your prayers.
Sincerely, Mary Delaine Allcock

A big thank you for the lovely reception, the beautiful flowers, and the very generous love offering you presented to me on September 26. I am very blessed! My five years as choir director and 8 years as handbell director were absolutely wonderful. I never could have done it without the love and support of the fabulous sanctuary choir, the brilliant Mc Amoss, our steadfast pastor Michael Cheuk, our ever-patient secretary Kathy Dunnavant, my original “partner-in-chime” Elizabeth Whiley, all of you great folks, and of course my family. I miss it already!
With love and thanks, Anita Lynn

Report on Called Church Business Meeting, Oct. 24
October 24, we held a called business meeting with a quorum of 50 members present for the purpose of hearing a report from the stewardship committee regarding the financing of the cost to repair the church roof which is being estimated to run about $80,000. Chuck Daniel reported on behalf of the committee that the repairs could be financed from three (3) sources: 1) from donations received designated for the building repairs; 2) by borrowing from funds currently held by the church but designated for other items (to be repaid over time on a prorated basis; 3) by opening a $100,000 line of credit at Benchmark Community Bank to be used should there be insufficient funds from the first two sources to pay the final roofing repair bill. This motion was unanimously approved following a time of questions and discussion.
