PASTOR’S COLUMN
Defining “Family”
The word “family” brings certain images to one’s mind. Perhaps you envision a mom, dad, daughter, and son crowded onto a couch. Maybe you picture a crowded Thanksgiving table with the grandma passing the rolls, grandpa carving the turkey, the grandkids shoving food into their mouths faster than it is being put on a plate.
Whatever it is that pops into your head, I would wager that a church does not. However, when we refer to the group of people that meets in our building, we say, “my church family.” Why?
Family is about togetherness and love, two characteristics that I believe are alive and well at Farmville Baptist Church. This summer, I was away from my biological family, but I found a family here at church. You all invited me over for meals, warmed my heart with hugs and smiles (cheesy but true), bought me a few ice cream cones, and even invited me to join your family at the movies. You took care of me and made sure that I never had to feel lonely or misplaced. I always knew that company was only a phone call away.
In becoming my family, you all have reminded me of the family God intended us all to be- a family of believers. You are all my brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, and grandparents in Christ, and I am truly thankful.
Love in Christ,
Sara Thompson

THANK YOU
Dear Friends, I have been looking over many cards received during the last few months and saw the ones from your church saying I was prayed for. It was quite consoling to look at the cards and recognize our Baptist friends names. We believe wholeheartedly in prayer and depend on it daily. Thank you so much for this ministry.
May God bless you greatly, Linnie Kernodle

Farmville Baptist Church Family, you will never know how much your prayers and thoughts were appreciated. When I received your cards stating you had prayed for me, my heart was filled with so much joy. I do not have the words to express how much I appreciate your prayers. Please continue to remember me in prayer, I am still standing on God’s Word and believing in the healing power through His Son, Jesus Christ. May God continue to bless your church family and your beloved Pastor, Michael Cheuk. Again, THANK YOU!!!
Associate Minister of Zion Hill Baptist Church, Minister Vernell Scott

Dear Church Members, I want to thank you for all your prayers and good wishes during my time in the Hospital and since my return home. I especially covet your prayer now as I seem to be “getting well” so very slowly. I am still very week and not moving around as much as I would like. I get tired so easily. Thanks again and please don’t drop me from your list.
Sincerely, Martha Whitehead

Passport Youth Camp Recap
We had 12 youth and 3 chaperones attend PassportChoices Camp at Wingate University in Wingate, NC from July 18-23. The students spent time participating in missions work, worship, Bible study, and fellowship with students from up and down the East Coast. We shared our experiences with the church on Sunday morning, July 25, in a youth-led worship service.
The youth would like to thank our chaperones, Jordan Whiley, B.A. Klein, and Julie Gaines. The youth would also like to thank the church for making it possible for them to attend youth camp through their support and contributions.
