Sunday Activities

On Sunday mornings we offer our youth an interactive and in-depth Sunday School class. They are currently studying complete books of the Bible. The youth also have opportunities to lead special youth services. They also participate in the sanctuary choir, bell choirs, and contemporary worship band. We also meet regularly as a youth group on Sunday evenings for No Holds Barred. This time is spent participating in Bible studies, going on outings (such as bowling and putt-putt), and playing games.

“No Holds Barred”

Every Sunday evening, if there is not a special event planned, the youth meet together for “No Holds Barred.” No Holds Barred is open to anyone who is in the 6th-12th grade. No Holds Barred is primarily a time set aside for the youth to participate in discipleship and Bible studies. Some of the topics we have discussed are Christian identity, Biblical truths, why we go to Church, and other religions. While spiritual growth is the focus of “No Holds Barred,” everyone needs to have a little fun.

Some Sunday evenings are spent bowling, playing putt-putt or ultimate Frisbee at a near by park. Sometimes the youth stay at the church and play games. One particular favorite is capture the flag with Nerf guns.

Local Missions

Throughout the year Farmville Baptist’s youth have the opportunity to participate in local missions. Some of the local mission organizations our youth serve are FACES (our local food pantry), Meals on Wheels, and Habitat for Humanity. Some of the upcoming opportunities for the youth to serve will be on a set Saturday to distribute food at FACES and to work on the construction of the new Habitat house here in Farmville.

Youth Camp

Each year the youth of Farmville Baptist Church attend Passport Camp at Wingate University in North Carolina. This is a discipleship-focused camp that gives youth the opportunity to experience modern worship, Bible study, missions, faith study choices, and, of course, fun during free time.  You can also find out more about PASSways on their website just click the following link: PASSways Camp.

Julie Gaines, Youth Intern

Julie_GainesEmail Julie

I’m Julie Gaines, and I’ve just completed two bachelors degrees, a B.A. in Liberal Studies and a B.M. in Music Education, from Longwood University in May 2010.  This summer, I’m a Collegiate Congregational Intern with Farmville Baptist through the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, so I’m learning all the ins and outs of FBC!  In my free time, I enjoy swimming, reading, creative writing, and spending time with friends.  My favorite musical artists are Switchfoot, Jon Foreman, John Mayer, and Jason Mraz (lots of J names–the best letter in the alphabet, in my opinion…)  I’ve been the Youth Intern here at FBC since August of 2009, and I’m truly blessed to have found such a welcoming and open congregation to be a part of and to serve!
