Parents and Youth Meeting
We will be having a meeting on September 26th at 6pm to discuss this past summer and the upcoming months as we transition back into a school year schedule. This will be in place of youth group that night. Both parents and youth are invited and encouraged to attend. We’ll be discussing things like when No Holds Barred should be held, what kinds of activities we’ll be doing as a youth group, and what days work best for these activities. Please make plans to attend and email Julie with RSVPs. Hope to see you all there!

FBC Youth News

PassportChoices 2010: Barefoot
It’s hard to believe that the time for Passport is here again! In less than three weeks, twelve of our youth and three of our bravest adults are headed to Wingate, North Carolina and the campus of Wingate University to participate in PassportChoices, a missions-based youth camp run by Passport, Inc. We’ll be joined by four youth and a chaperone from Tarwallet Baptist. This is a very exciting time for the youth (and the chaperones-I had a blast last year and am already looking forward to this year’s trip!). Please pray for our group as we travel and spend a week worshipping God, serving others, bonding as a group, and growing in our personal relationships with Christ.
For those of you with students going, we will be meeting at the church Sunday morning, July 18th, at 8:15am. We’ll pack the vehicles, take a picture, and depart! We should return around 6pm to FBC on Friday, July 23rd.
Thanks to the church and all individuals who donated and volunteered and made it possible for our youth to go on this trip! The Sunday after camp, July 25, the worship service will be a recap of the week. FBC Youth News

Lock-in at FBC on June 18
As the title of this section implies, we’re planning a lock-in at the church for Friday evening, June 18 at 7 pm through Saturday morning, June 19 at noon. Activities in the planning stages include tie-dying t-shirts, finger painting, and hopefully a very interesting scavenger hunt. Details are being finalized, so please be on the lookout for emails in the very near future regarding what to bring and how you can help!
In the meantime, please email Julie and let me know if you (your student) will be able to attend. Please feel free to bring friends!! This promises to be an event of epic proportions!

Total Cost: $328 (minus $75 deposit and fundraising amount credited to camper’s account)
Payment Deadline: Friday, May 22, 2010. (Parents and youth will receive a notification by May 10 letting them know exactly how much each camper still owes for camp.)

4/11 – Youth-Led Service

Julie Gaines, our ministry intern is organizing our youth to lead in morning worship on April 11. There will be skits, special music, readings, and prayers.
Afterwards, our children and youth will be hosting a spaghetti lunch fundraiser and dessert auction to help raise money for summer camp. All are invited to enjoy the lunch (for a donation) and to take home fabulous desserts that will be auctioned off to the highest bidder. If you can provide a dessert for the auction, please contact Kim Davis 223-4413 or JoAnn Bauer 391-1115. Please RSVP the church office by April 7 if you’re planning to attend.

2/21 – Camp Fundraiser – Soup Lunch

On Sunday February 21, our children and youth will sponsor a soup lunch after the worship service to raise money to help them go to summer camp.
We encourage you to attend and ask that you donate an amount to this cause that you would normally spend for a restaurant lunch.

2/14 – Souper Bowl of Caring

On Sunday, February 14, our youth will participate in the Souper Bowl of Caring. It is an opportunity for our youth to help fight hunger and poverty in our community. At the end of the worship service, our youth will station themselves at the exits of the sanctuary holding pots to collect canned and boxed food for our church’s emergency food pantry, and money for FACES, our community food pantry.
Please plan to bring cans or monetary donations to support this effort!!

Children’s Hayride Pictures

Last Sunday, we hosted our annual Children’s Hayride. Over forty children and adults enjoyed a fun hayride on a beautiful October afternoon. Afterwards, they played games organized by our youth and enjoyed a hot dog supper. Many thanks to Wayne Wallace and Sara Thompson for organizing the hayride and food, and to Julie Gaines and the youth for coming up with games for our children to play.

Passport Youth Camp

On July 19 to 24, eleven of our youth, together with the youth from Tar Wallet Baptist Church attended Passport Youth Camp at Wingate University in North Carolina. The theme of the week was “[re]mix” which led the youth to an inward journey of introspection and discipleship. Students were reminded that Christ is the Reconciler and the Rebuilder of lives and that God accepts who we are, whatever we bring too Him and re-creates us as we seek to follow Him. It was a transformative time for many of our youth and they came back full of renewed energy, passion and enthusiasm in their faith journey. Many thanks to Jordan Whiley, Kim Davis and Julie Gaines for chaperoning this trip and for the congregation for their prayers and support!

Youth Hiking Trip

On July 11, Rick Chassey led the youth group on a hike at the Mt. Pleasant Natural Area on Rt. 60 between Amherst and Buena Vista. The hike was an easy to moderate 6 mile loop hike to the top of Mt. Pleasant. The group had fun scrambling up the large rock outcrops on the east and west sides, and they enjoyed the spectacular views once they were able to get to the top.
