Last Sunday afternoon, we had nearly fifty children (in addition to their parents) in our front and back yards enjoying an Easter Egg Hunt. Many thanks to Amanda Johnston and our Children’s Committee for organizing the event. We had youth hiding the eggs, college students offering games and face painting, and parents bringing food. John Johnston grilled over one hundred hot dogs for everyone!

Last Saturday, our youth and median adults hosted a Valentine’s Dinner for thirty of our senior adults. “Chef” Jordan Whiley (pictured in the black shirt raising a spatula) concocted a wonderful meal of walnut crusted chicken, steamed asparagus, and herbed mashed potatoes. Our youth and median adults were servers, and three of our youth presented a brief musical program.

We love our senior adults, and this was one way that we could show our love and appreciation! Read the rest of this entry »

Halloween Water Handout

Posted on November 1st, 2007

img_2450.jpg

Yesterday, during Farmville’s “Halloween Parade,” our youth handed out 500 bottles of water to trick or treaters who were walking up and down Main Street. It was fun seeing and saying “hi” to so many kids (and parents) all dressed up and having a great time enjoying this community tradition.

As part of their year-long mission project, our youth is raising money for the “Watering Malawi” project. And on each water bottle they handed out was labeled this message: “Help us in our mission to share life giving water. Please visit www.wateringmalawi.org to find out how you can help.”

I hope you’ll visit that website also and make a donation to Watering Malawi! Read the rest of this entry »

“Haunted” Hayride

Posted on October 29th, 2007

img_2340.jpg

This past Sunday (Oct. 28) we brought back a church tradition, The Children’s Haunted Hayride. It was a great success!!! There were about 31 children there (not including adults or the “haunts” our youth.) We served a total of 86 hot-dogs! One hot-dog per-person and I hear that there were guests left wanting more! I want to thank Wayne Wallace and his wife Carrol’s family for being the instrumental key to this event. Not only was the hayride located on Wayne’s father in-law, Dr. Wilson’s, farm but Wayne also provided the tractors, the grill, and contributed greatly to the organization of the entire event. Farrah Schmidt, Katrina Dunn, and the Children’s Committee also deserve a great deal of thanks for providing organization and food. And let us not forget our “spooks” the ten brave souls in our youth group who hid in the woods, in the cold, and worked faithfully to provide an exciting ride for everyone to enjoy. So thanks Bob Agee, Charlotte and Sarah Cave, Liz and Carter Chassey, John Copeland, Mat Covington, Jewel Moore and her friend Ashley (our adopted youth for the evening), and Alesha Jackson.

I am so excited about the success of this event. I hope everyone had a blast! I’ve all ready started taking notes for next year for an even more successful time of fellowship. Thank you for supporting our youth and children; and for coming together as a church to celebrate a wonderful fall evening.
