VBS 2010

Posted on July 2nd, 2010

This week 38 children joined FBC in taking a journey through Egypt with Joseph.  We enjoyed time in the market place, spending time in the Jewelry shop, where we made Egyptian jewelry, the Barbershop, where we became clean-shaven citizens of Egypt, and the Brick-making shop, where we made bricks in the same way that the Egyptians made them.  Other shops included a Salon, the Food shop, and a Hieroglyphics shop.  We also had a linen shop, where the kids spent time completing 5 warm fleece blankets to send to Africa via Operation Kid to Kid.

In bible time, we got to see Joseph’s life change as he went from being a prisoner on day one to being an assistant to the Pharaoh.  Joseph taught us important lessons, such as God gives us hope, and God gives us forgiveness.

We would like to thank Cindy Cave and Sara Thompson for working together to create a fun week for everyone involved!

VBS 2009

Posted on June 18th, 2009

On June 14-18, we held our “Crocodile Dock” Vacation Bible School. Over fifty children attended and learned about how God is with us, how God is powerful, how God does what he says he’ll do, how God gives us life, and God cares for us. The refrain for the week was “Fear Not!”  We also collected canned goods and $140.95 for FACES, our local food pantry.

Many thanks to Crystal Cupp and Sandy East for directing VBS this year. And once again, a word of appreciation also goes to all our adult and youth volunteers!

“Power Lab” VBS

Posted on June 12th, 2008

This week, we had our Vacation Bible School using Group Publishing’s “Power Lab” curriculum. Throughout the week, we learned about the power that Jesus gives us to be thankful, to be helpful, to be brave, to live forever and to tell others of the good news. The participants conducted “experiments” that illustrated the “aha!” teaching point of the day. We had about forty children attend every day. Many thanks to Amanda Johnston, who served as VBS Director this year, and for the many volunteers from FBC and Zion Hill Baptist Church for making this VBS a success!

Pictures of “Galilee-by-the-Sea” VBS

Posted on June 11th, 2007

We had our first night of VBS last night, and I thought things really went smoothly. We’re doing quite a different VBS this year — using Group Publishing’s Galilee-by-the Sea curriculum. The idea is that the kids go back in time to experience the crafts, foods, and stories of the Bible. Because it’s so different, there was a lot of work on the front end — the weeks leading up to the opening, and yesterday as we created shops and hung atmospheric scenery (recycled from previous children’s musicals!) But the work paid off last night, as volunteers commented, “This is so different than usual — it feels more relaxing to spend time in the marketplace, choosing your own activity.”

Addendum (June 14): We had a great week of VBS! All pictures are now posted up on the old version of our church’s blog.

“Galilee-by-the-Sea” Vacation Bible School

Posted on May 30th, 2007

fbc_galileelogo01.jpg

On June 10th through the 14th, Farmville Baptist will be transformed into “Galilee-by-the-Sea, a seaside village where we will step back in time to experience the life and ministry of Jesus.

Members of Farmville Baptist and Zion Hill Baptist Church are joining forces to offer this VBS. The Fellowship Hall will become a bustling marketplace where shopkeepers set up booths to welcome kids to create projects. Children will learn some of the crafts and skills of Jesus’ day, such as carving stone, making ropes, weaving fishing nets, and working with wood.

We’ll also be heading outdoors to play with marbles, baskets, and even (kid-friendly) bows and arrows! At other times, we’ll enter the Synagogue to learn about Jewish traditions, we’ll sing in the Sanctuary, or we’ll see the Bible come to life in dramas that unfold before our very eyes.

We hope you’ll invite your friends to Galilee – and whether you have kids or not, we invite you to stop by and see us, and see Jesus in a whole new way.

The Vacation Bible School will take place from Sunday, June 10, through Thursday, June 14, from 6 – 8 p.m. On Sunday, June 17, we’ll celebrate our week during 11 a.m. worship. Children ages 3 through those who have completed the 5th grade are invited to attend the VBS.

You can download the registration form here or you can call the church office at (434) 392-5041.
