Souper Bowl of Caring
Posted on February 2nd, 2009
This past Sunday, February 1, our youth once again participated in the Souper Bowl of Caring. It was an opportunity for our youth to help fight hunger and poverty in our community.
At the end of the worship service, our youth stationed themselves at the exits of the sanctuary holding pots to collect canned and boxed food for our emergency food pantry. They also collected over $330.00 for F.A.C.E.S., our local food pantry. Many thanks to those who gave to this worthy cause!
Afterwards, the congregation enjoyed a soup lunch in the Fellowship Hall. For more pictures . . . Read the rest of this entry »

Jail Ministry
Posted on September 8th, 2008
On the first Sunday of each month from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m., a small team from Farmville Baptist visits the Piedmont Regional Jail to lead the female inmates in a time of singing, devotion and prayer. This ministry requires no specialized talents, just an open and flexible spirit. Please contact Anita Lynn, 391-3751, for more information and to participate. Please pray for the inmates as they serve their sentence and be released to rejoin their families and the society.

Bike Rodeo
Posted on May 21st, 2008
Last Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m., we sponsored a community-wide bike rodeo at the STEPS parking lot here in Farmville. About thirteen children brought their bikes to be inspected and serviced by Rodney Dunning and Jordan Whiley. After a bike safety presentation, the kids enjoyed riding around the course set up on the parking lot. And when they got hot from riding, they also cooled off with snow cones!

Thanksgiving Baskets
Posted on November 15th, 2007

As we’ve done in the past, our church is providing Thanksgiving baskets for ten families in our community identified by social services that are in need during this season. Amanda and the Children’s Committee did a great job in mobilizing our Sunday School classes to purchase the needed food items for the baskets. Then, last night, during their Wednesday night “Bible Blitz” time, our children “assembled” the baskets with enough food to make a nice Thanksgiving meal for each family. Many thanks to all who contributed to this effort. These baskets, together with a frozen turkey, will be delivered to social services next week for distribution.

Halloween Water Handout
Posted on November 1st, 2007

Yesterday, during Farmville’s “Halloween Parade,” our youth handed out 500 bottles of water to trick or treaters who were walking up and down Main Street. It was fun seeing and saying “hi” to so many kids (and parents) all dressed up and having a great time enjoying this community tradition.
As part of their year-long mission project, our youth is raising money for the “Watering Malawi” project. And on each water bottle they handed out was labeled this message: “Help us in our mission to share life giving water. Please visit www.wateringmalawi.org to find out how you can help.”
I hope you’ll visit that website also and make a donation to Watering Malawi!

Farmville Baptist Committees
Posted on August 8th, 2007
While deer hunting season is still several months away, “committee member” hunting season is in full force at Farmville Baptist!
We are looking for good people to serve in our various ministries and committees, and our Nominating Committee came up with a good slate of folks to invite to serve on our various committees. This post is for those who have been approached to serve and would like a brief description of the function of each committee.
