175th Anniversary Recap

On Sunday, October 16, 2011, Farmville Baptist Church celebrated it’s 175th Anniversary.
The morning began with a fellowship breakfast in the Fellowship Hall.
Then we had a wonderful anniversary celebration service at 11 a.m. The sanctuary was filled almost to capacity (click on picture to download a bigger version).
The service was filled with special music. The Sanctuary and Children’s Choirs sang “We Are the Children of Promise.” Lori Davis returned to sing the solo “The King of Love My Shepherd Is.” Peggy Cave (Founder and Choir Director, 1971-1979) directed our bell choir during the Offertory. And Pam McDermott (Former Music Director, 1999-2002) directed our Sanctuary Choir in singing “O Breath of God” as our Choral Benediction.
Pastor Michael Cheuk preached a sermon titled “Raising Our Ebenezer” (click here to listen to the sermon).
Special guests in attendance included:
Rev. Les Giles (former Pastor, 1970-1975) and his wife Joanne.
Rev. Charles Miller (former Associate Pastor, 1986-1988)
Evelyn McCluney, (former Office Manager, 1986-2007)
Pam McDermott (former Music Director, 1999-2002)
Dennis Myers, representing the Southside Baptist Association
Rev. Don Campbell, representing the Virginia Baptist Mission Board
Jennifer Clore, representing the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, national and state
After the service, the congregation enjoyed a pot-luck luncheon organized by Penny Huskey and our Social Committee. The food over overflowing and Linda Saxtan decorated an amazing Farmville Baptist cake. Everyone had a great time eating in the Fellowship Hall and outside under a couple of tents. The weather could not have been better . . . sunny and in the mid 70′s.

Church Picnic 2011

On August 28, we had our annual church picnic. This year, it was held at the Gee Price Center of the Fuqua School. We were blessed with a beautiful day, and we had over 100 members, guests and college students attend. Many thanks to Penny Huskey and the Social Committee for organizing the picnic!

College-Led Service

This Sunday, fourteen Longwood and Hampden-Sydney students led our Sunday morning worship. Sara Thompson, our ministry intern, organized and planned the service, and Aaron Van Allen, a Hampden-Sydney sophomore, gave the message. After the service, our College Committee hosted a luncheon for all our students and their adopted parents.

Church Picnic 2010

Last Sunday, over 120 folks enjoyed a nice afternoon of swimming, conversation and good food at our annual church picnic. We gathered at the Gee Price Center of the Fuqua School starting at 3 pm, and had a pot-luck supper at 5:30 pm. We were thrilled that we had over 25 college students attend! Many thanks to Penny Huskey and the Social Committee for organizing this event. A good time was had by all!

12/13 – Christmas Dinner & Caroling

All are invited to our church-wide Christmas Pot-Luck Dinner on Sunday, December 13 at 5:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.
The church will provide the meat, green string beans and baked beans.
Please bring your favorite side dish and/or dessert to share for this pot-luck meal.
During the meal, we will write messages and sign Christmas cards that will be delivered to our shut-ins as we go caroling at around 6:15 p.m.
We will take our church van and carpool carolers to visit our homebound members and to the residents at The Woodlands.
Please join us as we celebrate the Advent season and spread the joy and love of Christ to members of our community through our songs and our presence!

Children’s Hayride Pictures

Last Sunday, we hosted our annual Children’s Hayride. Over forty children and adults enjoyed a fun hayride on a beautiful October afternoon. Afterwards, they played games organized by our youth and enjoyed a hot dog supper. Many thanks to Wayne Wallace and Sara Thompson for organizing the hayride and food, and to Julie Gaines and the youth for coming up with games for our children to play.

Children’s Hayride

Farmville Baptist Church will be hosting a Children’s Hayride on October 25, from 3:30 p.m. to around 5:30 p.m. at 952 Lockett Rd. The hayride will not be “haunted” this year. Instead, there will be “fall festival” games for children to play. A hot dog and s’mores cookout will follow the hayride at around 5 p.m. PLEASE BRING LAWN CHAIRS!

College Progressive Dinner

This evening, we had a wonderful progressive dinner for our college students. We had around 20 college students and around 26 folks from Farmville Baptist. Many thanks to Chuck and Debbie Daniel for hosting the salad course, Michael and Beth Cheuk for hosting the main course, and Gene and Patsy Watson for hosting the dessert course. We also could not have done it without Linda and H.A. Saxtan, who cooked the spaghetti. At the end, our college students were matched with their adoptive families. A good time was had by all! Church Picnic ’09

This Sunday afternoon, we had our annual church picnic. This year it was held at the Gee Price Center of the Fuqua School. 8/30 – Church Picnic

You are invited to attend our annual summer church-wide picnic on Sunday, August 30, 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.
This year, the picnic will be held at the Gee Price Center of the Fuqua School, 605 Fuqua Dr, Farmville, VA – (434) 392-4131.
The church will provide chicken strips and bread. Please bring casseroles, vegetable side dishes, salads and desserts to share. Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m.
The swimming pool is available at $7 per person.
If you plan on swimming, please contact Penny Huskey (pvhuskey1[at]embarqmail.com or 392-1050) before Tuesday, August 25, to obtain a swim pass.
