College-Led Service
Posted on March 26th, 2012

On Sunday, March 25, over thirty Longwood and Hampden-Sydney students led in our worship service. Sarah Cave preached on “Faithful Sight” taken from Matthew 11:28-30 and Isaiah 41:10. Brittany Crowe shared her testimony. Zach Highland played the organ. “Pitch Perfect,” an acapella from Longwood provided the special music. Casey Garrett and Michael Crumpler gave the children’s lesson. Many others read litanies, read scripture, prayed, handed out bulletins, and collected the offering. After the service, a luncheon was served for the students and for their adoptive parents. It was a wonderful time of worship and fellowship!

College-Led Worship Service
Posted on November 15th, 2009
This Sunday, students from Longwood University and Hampden-Sydney College led our morning worship service. Students read scripture and litanies, prayed, gave the children’s lesson (in rap form!), worked in our nursery, sang, played the piano, drew a picture, took up the offering and preached! Afterwards, the students and their adopted parents enjoyed lunch in our fellowship hall. We are so thankful for these students who are attending, serving, and leading here at Farmville Baptist!

College Progressive Dinner
Posted on September 13th, 2009
This evening, we had a wonderful progressive dinner for our college students. We had around 20 college students and around 26 folks from Farmville Baptist. Many thanks to Chuck and Debbie Daniel for hosting the salad course, Michael and Beth Cheuk for hosting the main course, and Gene and Patsy Watson for hosting the dessert course. We also could not have done it without Linda and H.A. Saxtan, who cooked the spaghetti. At the end, our college students were matched with their adoptive families. A good time was had by all! “Adopt-a-Student” Ministry
Posted on August 25th, 2009

Our “adopt-a-student” ministry is fun outreach program designed to give college students local Christian support while they are living in Farmville. University students are “adopted” by members of the congregation with the understanding that the “adoptive families” are there for the students as a “home-away-from-home.” Students are free to have as much or as little interaction with their adoptive families–it is up to the students to decide what is most helpful for them.
In the past, adoptive families have gotten together with their students for various activities such as taking them out to lunch or having them over for a home cooked meal, sending cards on special occasions, calling in to check on them, offering a ride if their car is in the shop, offering a place to stay to “cool off” from roommate problems, etc.
For more information, please contact Patsy Watson at 392-8563 or by email at gnpwatson [at] gmail [dot] com. Hear Patsy’s description of the Adopt-a-Student program.
If you are a church member who would like to sign up to adopt a student, please download and fill out this form and email it to Patsy.
If you are a student and would like to be adopted, please download and fill out this questionnaire and email it to Patsy.
Members of our College Committee will take the information from the forms and match students with the “adoptive parents.”
In Their Own Words . . .
On Sunday, August 30, 2009, two Longwood students, Rachel Hammett and Ashley Warrick briefly shared their experience as participants in our adopt-a-student ministry here at Farmville Baptist. Hear their testimony by clicking this link.
