Rev. Dr. Michael Cheuk, Pastor
Michael Cheuk, our Pastor, received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Rice University in Houston, Texas, and his M.Div. from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth. In 2004, he completed his Ph.D. in Religious Ethics at the University of Virginia. He became the Pastor at Farmville Baptist on August 1, 2005. Before moving to Farmville, he served as an Associate Minister at University Baptist Church in Charlottesville, and as a Baptist Student Union Director at two community colleges in Texas. He and his wife Beth have two young children. Michael has a weblog that contains sermons and musings about faith and life.
Rev. Amanda Johnston, Associate Pastor
Amanda Johnston, our Associate Pastor for Congregational Care and Growth, began her service here in September of 2007. She is a native of Martinsville, Virginia. She attended Sweet Briar College, graduating in May, 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Minor in Dance. Ordained by First Baptist Church Martinsville on November 12, 2006, Amanda is a recent graduate of Duke Divinity School She received her Masters of Divinity and Certificate in Baptist Studies while at Duke. She is married to John, who is a professional musician.
Dr. B. McRae Amoss, Jr., Organist
A native of Georgia, Mc Amoss first remembers becoming fascinated with church organs around the age of six. A church musician since the age of 13, when he became the accompanist for his church’s children’s choir, he later became the church’s pianist and then its organist. He came to the University of Virginia to do graduate study in French language and literature. He completed his Ph.D. in 1990 and in 1991 joined the faculty of Longwood University, where he is a professor of French. He became the organist of Farmville Baptist in 1992.
Anita Lynn, Interim Choir Director
Anita Lynn has been serving as our interim Choir Director since January 2006 and has been a member of Farmville Baptist Church and the sanctuary choir since 2000. A certified teacher of grades Pre-K through 4, Anita is currently working on a degree in Music Education from Longwood University. Anita directs the handbell choir and serves as keyboardist for the church’s Worship Team. Anita is married to Jay Lynn, IT Project Manager at Longwood, and is the proud mom of two.
Tammy Dunning, Preschool Director
Tammy Dunning is the Director of our Preschool. She and her family moved to Farmville in the summer of 2006. Prior to coming to Farmville Baptist, Tammy worked in preschool ministry in a variety of roles for 8 years in a large church in Birmingham Alabama. Her favorite part of preschool is watching the joy on a child’s face when they realize they have learned something new. Tammy is married to Rodney, a physics professor at Longwood University. They have two children, Sarah and Olivia.
Kathy Dunnavant, Office Manager
Kathy Dunnavant our Office Manager is a native of this area and is back with the Farmville Baptist Church for the second time as Secretary/Office Manager. Kathy first served as our secretary from 1968-1971. After retiring from state service Kathy has return once again to serve the congregation. During her service to the Commonwealth of Virginia Kathy worked for the Virginia Department of Forestry for 22 years and Longwood University for 8 years. Kathy and her husband Stuart have been married for 22 years and live in Cumberland.
Al Schmidt, Custodian
Al Schmidt, our custodian, is a life-long resident of Farmville and a long time member of Farmville Baptist. He retired from Dominion Power after thirty-six years of service there.
